In 2001, Hamish and Isabella Haslop bought the property with a vision for what it could be. Through hard work, dedication to protecting the local environment, and many incredible guests along the way, they have truly built something special at Mungumby Lodge.
Their personal passion for providing unique, authentic, immersive experiences that are so much more than just somewhere to lay your head at night is the driver for their success.
With more than 25 years on site, you will be hard-pressed to find anyone with their deep knowledge of the region, its unique ecosystems, local history, and Indigenous culture. This is how they are able to provide the personal touch that aids their guests in creating memories to last a lifetime.

We believe in being stewards or custodians of the land. Ensuring its preservation for current and future generations of an array of species as well as humans. It’s not only our responsibility but our privilege to do so.
Giving people a space in which they can disconnect from their extraordinarily busy lives and reconnect with each other, nature, culture and history is important to us. Experiences where people can immerse themselves in a different world and forge genuine connections is what we strive to deliver.

In regional areas such as ours, connection to community is vital to ensure we all thrive. That’s why we employ local staff wherever possible, 90% of lodge purchases are made locally, and 95% of our fresh produce comes is purchased locally – in many cases direct from the grower.
We actively work with local Indigenous groups hosting business development workshops and philanthropic events for Jawun’s Cape York Aboriginal Leadership program and we have been heavily involved with developing and distributing our local tourism guide through our membership of the Cooktown Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.
