What people say

Cooktown Accommodation with nature.
Located just 20 mins before and in rural terms a short distance (28km) from Cooktown, we are a great base from which to explore Cooktown from and more so the greater SE Cape region. Located in a very private setting within World Heritage Rainforest on the Great Barrier Reef coast, there are no human-made noises, just nature. Your hosts will give you directions to explore Cooktown, the surrounding remote coastlines, various waterfalls and Aboriginal communities and lots more........
With ten cosy spacious wooden cabins with ensuite bathrooms and private patios. These are constructed separately from each other and the main building within the gardens. A large Homestead with wide-open living areas overlooking the beautiful Mungumby Creek. For breakfast, reading, or just plain relaxing by the pool, guests use the spacious homestead surrounded by large tropical gardens and pool overlooking the rainforest canopy. You can bird watch from the homestead steps, the Aussie BBQ Pavilion or the lounge.
With no telephones in the cabins or mobile recption you can truly switch off! Urgent e-mail and message services are available at the office and the homestead phone line is portable and you are welcome to use it. We have free internet available from a terminal in the office. TV’s and mobile coverage are not available due to location and available transmission. Nature is our entertainer!

Some things We Do Ask You to Remember
Please be aware that this region of the world is also home to exotic species of flora and fauna. We therefore ask you, to always pay attention to warning signs, especially if you are out there exploring the area without a professional guide.
Swimming from November to May should only be undertaken around Mungumby Lodge, Trevathan Falls, Isabella Falls or the Annan River gorge where the waters are Croc free and safe. At the beach you can minimize the risk of stinger-injury by wearing a stinger-resistant wet-suit. The rest of the year is abide by the signage and are aware of the risks. We have wonderful beaches that offer excellent ocean swimming, just need to ask where they are.
Vast areas of the Cook, Mareeba & Douglas Shires and parts of Cooktown itself there is no mobile coverage. Not dissimilar to huge areas nationally, so Telstra offer their telephone booths free of charge for making calls. For corporate clients we have connectivity options available however we are unable to offer this to leisure clients on holiday. Important national calls can be made from our lodge telephone without charge. Telstra or Optus don't sell accommodation therefore we do not compete with their services either. People come here to get off the grid, so no free wifi, we are wifi free! Mungumby Lodge is the Australian Centre for Digital Detox and customers talk to each other.
